Are you saved or just religious?

Everyone is created in God's image.

Genesis 1:27 God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them.

Being made in God's image, we all have a spiritual side to us that can appear very religious.

2 Timothy 3:5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

Because we have a spiritual side to us, we are attracted to religious things. Many of the religious/spiritual things we involve ourselves with are not from God and are actually forbidden by God such as palm readers, fortune-tellers, psychics and so on.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.

Leviticus 20:27 A man or woman who is a medium or spiritualist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.

The old sinful nature can be very religious, it can even have un uplifting experience in religious activities. What the sinful nature will not do is obey God's law.

Romans 8:7-8 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.

Many religious things people do such as gathering for worship on Sunday, the first day of the week, instead of Saturday, the seventh day of the week is relighious behavior but it's not of God. You won't find one verse in the entire Bible that tells us to gather for worship on the first day instead of the seventh day. You won't even find one verse that says Sunday is the Lord's day but you'll find many that tell us to keep the seventh day holy and gather for worship on that day.

Leviticus 23:3 You have six days in which to do your work, but remember the seventh day Sabbath to keep it holy, On that day do not work, but gather for worship. The Sabbath belongs to the Lord, no matter where you live.

Sunday worship with Sunday gathering is of pagan origin, not God or the Bible but religious people won't care about that but a saved person will.

In Roman culture, Sunday was the day of the Sun god. In paganism, the Sun was a source of life, giving warmth and illumination to mankind. Sunday - Wikipedia

Question - Which is the Sabbath day?

Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 364), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 3rd ed.

“Sunday is our mark of authority… the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact” Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept 1, 1923

To a saved person truth is important because they want their worship to be acceptable to God and pleasing to Him, they will reject man's religious laws and traditions and obey God's law.

Matthew 15:8-9 These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. Their worship is worthless, for they teach their man-made laws instead of those from God.

Isaiah 29:13 The Lord said, “These people show worship to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. Their worship of Me is worth nothing. They teach commandments and traditions that men have made.

Mark 7:7 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

Matthew 15:3 Jesus said to them, “Why do you break the Law of God by trying to keep their tradition?

Titus 1:16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

A lost person, who is religious, has no real desire for truth as long as it's religious activity.

2 Thessalonians 2:10 Lost people will be fooled by his evil deeds. They could be saved, but they will refuse to love the truth and accept it.

God's special day is the seventh day Sabbath because He created it that way and because it's holy and special to God, it will be holy and special to a saved person.

Genesis 2:3 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.

God created the seventh day as holy and He protected its holiness with His law, as seen in the fourth commandment.

Exodus 20:8-10 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.

Exodus 35:2 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

Thank God for His grace, because God's grace withholds the punishment of being stoned to death for desecrating the Sabbath.

The seventh day Sabbath is for the sacred assembly of God's righteous people. This, in itself, is an act of worship and is pleasing to God. Keeping the Sabbath holy testifies that we are His holy and righteous people.

Exodus 31:13 Say to the people of Israel, ‘Keep My Sabbath holy, for this is something special between Me and you forever. So you may know that I am the Lord Who sets you apart for Myself.

Ezekiel 20:20 Keep my Sabbaths holy; let them be a sign between me and you, so that people may know that I am the LORD your God

Isaiah 56:6-8 As for the Gentiles, the outsiders who join the people of the Lord and serve him and love his name, who are his servants and don’t desecrate the Sabbath, and have accepted his covenant and promises, I will bring them also to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and make them full of joy within my House of Prayer. I will accept their sacrifices and offerings, for my Temple shall be called “A House of Prayer for All People”! For the Lord God who brings back the outcasts of Israel says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel.

Mark 2:27 Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for mankind, not mankind for the Sabbath.

Sa-ur-day: the seventh day of the week. The day preceding Sunday and following Friday.

Sun-day: the first day of the week.

The Sabbath is the Lord's day and if Christ is your Lord then the Sabbath is your day too.

Luke 6:5 Jesus said unto them, “The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath.”

Keeping the Sabbath holy, by gathering for worship, did not change with the early church.

Acts 13:44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

Luke 23:56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Being religious or spiritual is one thing, but being saved is all together different. Being saved is like having a whole new life with new desires that loves what God loves and hates what God hates.

Psalm 97:10 You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked.

Do you hunger and thirst for what God calls righteous?

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

Do you feel like there is a new Spirit in you moving you to do what is right in the eyes of God?

Ezekiel 36:26-28 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. I will take away your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My Laws and be careful to do what I tell you. And you will live in the land that I gave to your fathers. You will be My people, and I will be your God.

1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

Do you have insight into the deep spiritual things in God's heart?

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

These are some of the things that accompany salvation. If you feel that you are lost and have no desire for these things, then call out to Him, and He will save you.

Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you call out to Him, He will adopt you into His very own family.

Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father."

Ephesians 1:5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Now go and be baptized in the name of God's Son, as a request to cleans you of all your sin and as covenant sign between you and Him that you have turned from your life without God and have now committed your life to God.

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

1 Peter 3:21 Baptism, which is symbolized by that water, now saves you also, not by removing dirt from the body, but by asking God for a clear conscience based on the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Now go out and live your life for God by loving Him and loving others the way God defines love.

Romans 13:8-10 Owe nothing to anyone except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law. For the commandments say, "You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet." These and other such commandments are summed up in this one commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God's law.

1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.

1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 2:6 "The one who claims to abide in God ought to walk just as Jesus walked."

Here are some ways to express your love for God, neighbor and yourself.

1.  Be kind to all people no matter what religion, race or sexual orientation they are.
2.  Help people who are in need.
3.  Be faithful to your spouse.
4.  Care for your family and love them.
5.  Be truthful at all times and don't cheat.
6.  Don't look down on others or think you're better than others
7.  Always think the best about people.

8.  Your body is the temple of God, so take care of it and eat only the things that God calls food.
9.  Keep the Sabbath holy.
10. Honor God in all that you say and do.

Matthew 22:36-40 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

All the Law and the Prophets hang from loving God, neighbor and yourself because the Law and the Prophets teach what godly and righteous love should look like.
